TO-247-4 / TO-247-4L compatibility:
The terms TO-247-4 and TO-247-4L are commonly used to describe the same four-pin TO-247 power package featuring a separate Kelvin source (sense) lead. In practice, these designations are used interchangeably across manufacturers and datasheets. This board is fully compatible with both TO-247-4 and TO-247-4L MOSFETs and IGBTs.
The dedicated Kelvin source/emitter lead allows the gate driver to reference the device at the true source/emitter potential, independent of the high-current power path. By separating the gate-drive loop from the load current loop, parasitic inductance and voltage bounce are significantly reduced. This results in cleaner gate signals, faster and more predictable switching transitions, reduced ringing, and lower switching losses—especially important at high switching speeds, high di/dt, and high power levels.
