Available Options

Built for high-voltage systems requiring dependable insulation, controlled current flow, and increased power-handling capability, this 100kV, 100W High Voltage Resistor is available in resistance values from 1MΩ to 100MΩ. The range is well suited for capacitor charging, controlled discharge paths, bleeder networks, voltage grading, high-voltage dividers, and other high-impedance circuit applications.

The glass glaze resistive construction delivers stable electrical performance under demanding operating conditions. A non-inductive, low-parasitic design also helps minimise unwanted ringing, transient overshoot, and waveform distortion that can occur when inductive wirewound resistors are installed in fast-switching or pulsed high-voltage circuits.

Because of its low-inductance characteristics, the resistor can be used in pulse generators, high-voltage capacitor banks, pulse-forming networks, modulators, MOSFET-based switching systems, stacked semiconductor switches, and laboratory pulse equipment. Suitable functions include voltage grading, transient damping, static balancing, snubber networks, and controlled loading of high-voltage outputs.

Within capacitor charging systems, the selected resistance value can be used to restrict charging current and reduce electrical stress on rectifiers, transformers, switching devices, and power supplies. The resistor may also provide a predictable discharge path for stored energy, helping residual capacitor voltage decay after the equipment has been switched off.

Rated for voltages up to 100kV and power dissipation up to 100W, this component is intended for larger or more demanding HV installations where lower-rated resistors may not provide sufficient voltage clearance or thermal capacity. Possible applications include high-voltage DC power supplies, electrostatic generators, X-ray equipment, plasma systems, insulation testers, scientific instruments, accelerator-related equipment, and experimental pulse circuits.

The 100W power rating provides additional capacity for applications involving continuous bleeder current, higher capacitor charging energy, repeated discharge cycles, or sustained loading. Actual dissipation depends on the resistance value and applied voltage, so both the electrical power calculated using P = V²/R and the resistor’s maximum voltage rating must be considered when selecting the operating conditions.

High-voltage measurement networks can also be constructed by combining this resistor with suitable lower-value precision resistors. Correctly designed divider chains can reduce an HV signal to a measurable level for an oscilloscope, voltmeter, data-acquisition input, or monitoring circuit. The complete divider must be designed with appropriate resistance ratios, creepage distances, insulation, bandwidth, and individual resistor voltage limits.

In series-connected resistor strings, the component may be used to distribute voltage across multiple stages, balance floating circuit sections, or establish defined potentials in high-voltage assemblies. The available resistance range makes it possible to optimise the compromise between divider current, discharge time, continuous power loss, and circuit loading.

For pulsed operation, capacitor discharge service, or repetitive transient loading, the peak pulse energy and average dissipation must remain within the permitted operating limits. The applied voltage must never exceed the lower of the resistor’s 100kV maximum rating or the voltage permitted by its resistance value and 100W power rating.

Whether incorporated as a capacitor charging resistor, HV bleeder, voltage-divider element, grading resistor, high-impedance load, or low-inductance damping component, this 100kV resistor provides a practical solution for managing electrical energy in high-power and high-voltage equipment.

Full product data, including available resistance values, rated voltage, continuous power, tolerance, temperature coefficient, dimensions, and operating temperature range, is listed under the Specification tab on this product page.

Available resistor values include 1 MΩ, 1.5 MΩ, 2.2 MΩ, 3.3 MΩ, 4.7 MΩ, 6.8 MΩ, 10 MΩ, 47 MΩ, and 100 MΩ. These options cover a broad selection of capacitor charging, controlled discharging, voltage grading, bleeder networks, high-voltage measurement, low-current limiting, and circuit-balancing requirements.
