Designed for compact high-voltage circuits requiring accurate resistance, controlled current flow, and dependable pulse performance, this 25kV, 5W High Voltage Resistor is available in values from 100kΩ to 10MΩ. The resistance range is suitable for current limiting, capacitor charging and discharging, voltage-divider networks, bleeder circuits, voltage grading, bias networks, and protection of sensitive high-voltage components.

A robust glass glaze resistive element provides stable operation under demanding electrical conditions. Its non-inductive, low-parasitic construction helps reduce unwanted ringing, overshoot, and waveform distortion compared with conventional wirewound resistors, making it well suited to pulsed circuits and fast-switching high-voltage systems.

Each resistor has a tight resistance tolerance of ±1%, providing improved accuracy and consistency compared with components having wider tolerances. This is particularly valuable in precision voltage dividers, high-voltage feedback circuits, monitoring networks, matched resistor strings, and voltage-grading arrangements where resistance variation can directly affect measurement accuracy, circuit bias, or voltage distribution.

Values at the lower end of the range can be used to restrict current in high-voltage power supplies, pulse generators, MOSFET switching circuits, spark-gap systems, and capacitor charging networks. Unlike very high-value measurement resistors, the 100kΩ to 680kΩ options allow greater current flow and can therefore provide stronger current limiting, faster discharge, or more firmly defined electrical bias where the resulting power dissipation remains within specification.

Resistance values from approximately 1MΩ to 10MΩ are well suited to bleeder networks, high-voltage sensing, voltage-divider circuits, controlled capacitor discharge, electrostatic equipment, and applications where reduced loading of the voltage source is important. The selected value determines the circuit current, discharge time constant, divider impedance, and continuous power loss.

In capacitor-based equipment, the resistor may be used to limit charging current, reduce stress on rectifiers and switching components, or provide a predictable path for removing stored energy after power is disconnected. It can also serve as a bleeder resistor across an HV output, helping prevent capacitors and terminals from remaining at an undefined or hazardous floating potential.

The non-inductive design is beneficial in pulse generators, capacitor discharge circuits, pulse-forming networks, semiconductor switching systems, and laboratory test setups where ordinary inductive resistors may affect transient behaviour. Depending on the resistance value and pulse conditions, it may also be used for waveform damping, surge-current control, output loading, and protection of sensitive high-voltage devices.

With a maximum component voltage rating of 25kV and a continuous power rating of 5W, this resistor is intended for moderate-power high-voltage applications. Typical uses include high-voltage DC power supplies, insulation testers, electrostatic equipment, scientific instruments, laboratory pulse systems, plasma experiments, measurement circuits, and voltage-monitoring networks.

The resistor can be combined with additional precision resistors to form high-voltage divider chains or voltage-grading networks. Its ±1% tolerance supports predictable divider ratios and more consistent static voltage sharing across series-connected components. Fast transient applications may additionally require capacitive or RC grading to compensate for stray capacitance and dynamic voltage imbalance.

Both the 25kV maximum voltage rating and the 5W power rating must be observed when selecting the operating conditions. In continuous service, the allowable voltage is often determined by the resistor value and its power dissipation rather than by the full 25kV voltage rating. The applied continuous voltage must therefore remain below both the resistor’s maximum voltage rating and the value permitted by P = V²/R.

For example, lower resistance values reach the 5W power limit at substantially less than 25kV. The full voltage rating should not be interpreted as the permissible continuous voltage at every resistance value. Repetitive pulse energy, duty cycle, ambient temperature, insulation distances, cooling, and any required safety derating must also be considered in the complete circuit design.

Whether used as a current-limiting resistor, precision voltage-divider element, capacitor charging resistor, HV bleeder, grading component, damping resistor, or part of a high-voltage monitoring circuit, this non-inductive resistor offers accurate and reliable performance in compact high-voltage systems.

Detailed product information, including available resistance values, maximum voltage, rated power, tolerance, temperature coefficient, dimensions, lead specifications, and operating temperature range, is provided under the Specification tab on this product page.

Available resistance values include 100 kΩ, 150 kΩ, 220 kΩ, 330 kΩ, 470 kΩ, 680 kΩ, 1 MΩ, 1.5 MΩ, 2.2 MΩ, 3.3 MΩ, 4.7 MΩ, 6.8 MΩ, and 10 MΩ. This selection makes it possible to choose an appropriate resistance for current limiting, capacitor charging and discharge, voltage dividers, bleeder networks, voltage grading, pulse damping, HV feedback, and circuit protection.
