Our 20 kV high voltage pulse capacitor is designed for demanding pulsed-power, high-voltage switching, resonant, and experimental applications where high voltage capability and rapid energy delivery are required. With a capacitance of 220 nF, a rated voltage of 20 kV DC, and a maximum pulse current of 100 A, it provides a robust energy-storage solution for high-voltage pulse systems.
With a maximum stored energy of approximately 44 joules at its rated 20 kV voltage, this capacitor is particularly well suited for experiments involving fast discharge, pulse forming, resonant circuits, high-voltage switching, and other pulsed-power applications. The low dissipation factor of ≤8 × 10-4 at 1 kHz helps minimize internal losses, while the heavy-duty M8 screw terminals provide a secure, low-resistance connection suitable for high pulse currents.
This capacitor is an excellent companion for our Stacked MOSFET Switch systems, allowing stored high-voltage energy to be switched with very fast rise and fall times. This combination is particularly useful for high-voltage pulse experiments, pulse discharge circuits, resonant excitation, and research applications where precise electronic control of high-voltage pulses is required.
Designed according to IEC 61071 and IEC 61881 reference standards, the capacitor offers a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C and a specified life expectancy of up to 100,000 hours at rated voltage and 70°C. Its fully encapsulated cylindrical construction provides excellent electrical insulation and mechanical protection, making it suitable for both laboratory experimentation and integration into high-voltage equipment.

Warning: At 20 kV this capacitor stores approximately 44 J of energy. This represents a potentially lethal amount of stored electrical energy. The capacitor can remain charged after power has been removed and should only be handled by persons experienced with high-voltage systems. Appropriate discharge, current-limiting, interlocking, insulation, and safety procedures must be used.
